Theater Arts Camp Staff
Our theater arts camp is full of experience and enthusiasm. Nick Williams returns as our camp director and is also a K/1 teacher at Aurora. He started at Aurora in the extended care program and summer camp prior to earning his teaching credential. He has been the theater director the past two summers. Many of the staff is also returning, including Regina, Alex, Jackie, Katie, Katy, Margy, and adding Noel to the team.
Berkeley Chess School
The Berkeley Chess School (BCS) is a non-profit organization, which has been offering chess instruction from elementary through high school for more than 25 years, and is an affiliate of the U.S. Chess Federation. Over the years, BCS students have won numerous state championships, some students going on to become Masters, FIDE Masters and International Masters .
Eve Decker
Eve Decker returns to Aurora for the summer as our music specialist in Theater Arts camp and as the instructor of a mini theater camp in held August. Eve is a professional musician with Rebecca Riots and other local groups, as well as a music teacher in the area. Eve has been with Aurora for more than ten years, and after a brief sabbatical, is returning again this summer.
Regina Gilligan
Regina is a professional artist and has been teaching a variety of camps at Aurora for over 10 years. She directs the set designs for our Theater Arts camp, and teaches a variety of engaging half-day art camps at Aurora.
Mark Hall
Mark is an experienced computer technologist and teacher, and teaches at Aurora and Holy Names High School during the school year. He brings to his camps a deep understanding of technology, as well as a creative flair that gives students the opportunity to explore computers in interesting and interactive ways.
Jon Hoffman
Jon Hoffman runs Math Demystified. He started his program after attending the entire "Making Math Real" Summer Institute during the summer of 2006, and assisted at what turned out to be the last Making Math Real Summer Camp. He is dedicated to helping children become more comfortable with mathematics and making learning mathematics a fun experience.
TEK with LEGOs
Play-Well TEKnologies' instructors all have engineering and/or teaching backgrounds, but more importantly they all share a common enthusiasm for kids, engineering, and the LEGO building system. The instructors teach classes at year-round at schools, recreation departments, and home-schools, enabling them to provide a thoroughly engaging, challenging array of engineering projects that they have come to master, making them excellent teachers and LEGO resources for children.
Linda Lemon
Linda is a resident artist who has been with Aurora School for more than five years. She teaches her afterschool classes here, as well as at other local elementary schools. She emphasizes textile art forms that have a life beyond the camp experience.
Sophie Leininger
Sophie is a resident artist who is currently working with youth and professional artists in the Bay Area. She was the craft shop director at Camp Norwester in the state of Washington.
Noel Musgnung
Noel works in Aurora's Extended Care Program during the school year, and has an extensive experience in arts and crafts in both residential and day camp settings.
Judy Richardson
Judy is a resident artist from New York. She works with youth in New York to develop wonderful art instillations. Judy has been here at Aurora during the summers for the past several years.
Olivia Sanders
Olivia returns each summer to teach our engaging and educational gardening camp. She is currently a teacher in the Oakland Schools and worked in our extended care and summer program prior to receiving her teaching credential.
Aliea Wallace
Aliea's background is primarily in drawing. She uses effective techniques to teach children how to draw texture, shade, proportion and how to draw a variety of real and imaginary characters. She uses additional tools and crafts to help visualize their end-project.
Heidi Brevet, Director
Heidi has been at Aurora for over eight years and coordinates the extended care, summer camp, enrichment programs, as well as many special events and fundraising activities. She comes from a long career at the Oakland YMCA as the Senior Program Director.
