Commitment to Diversity
As a school community, we are committed to honoring one another across many differences including racial, cultural, language, gender and gender identity, economic, family structure (adoptive families, gay and lesbian families, single-parent households, children raised by other caregivers), and all other forms of uniqueness among us.
Aurora School embraces and supports members of our community by talking about our differences, reading books that describe different individuals and families and by using language that is inclusive of all of us. Rather than a one-time, designated conversation, this effort is part of an ongoing dialogue that is integrated every day into our classroom curriculum, school assemblies and school events.
Aurora staff continues to participate in a series of professional development activities designed to deepen our cultural competence, and the Aurora Diversity Committee sponsors a series of parent workshops during the school year.
The Aurora community strives to embrace diversity and create acceptance and mutual respect for all.
