Thursday evening, July 26, 2007, students of the Aurora School Summer Theater Arts Camp performed their rendition of the Broadway and movie production "THE WIZ" With over 300 people in attendance, the performance also served as a special community service project, with a collection of two large barrels of food for the Alameda Food Bank. In an innovative twist, the price of admission included a request for food donation.
Aurora School's interdisciplinary Theater Camp was established over ten years ago as a complement to the School's curriculum, which includes music, art and woodshop. The Theater Camp incorporates set design, costume design and instrument-making into the final production.
As part of fostering a creative forum for each individual, Aurora School's Theater Arts productions are aimed at providing a performance opportunity for each student. This year, each of the over 60 students (ranging in ages 4.5 - 14 years) performed a role in the lively production adapted by Theater Arts Camp Director, Eve Decker. Creative casting included the appearance of three Dorothys, three Tinmen, three Scarecrows and three Lions.
