Community Service
Stretching beyond the walls of our school and into the greater community to instill love and commitment to helping others has long been an important part of Aurora's philosophy. To achieve this goal, our curriculum incorporates service learning and community service activities and projects that link the classroom to the community.
Some of these projects have included:
- preparing and serving monthly dinners to homeless individuals
- participating in food, blanket and toy drives for local charities
- collecting books and school supplies to other children in need
- participating in beach clean-ups related to a study of the ocean
- removing garbage from and labeling neighborhood storm drains
- publishing and distributing "Watershed Awareness" booklets
- performing a class play for local nursing home residents
- raising money to purchase and preserve rainforest land
