Bienvenidos a la Clase de Espanol!
Walk down the hallways of Aurora during school hours, hang out at Tuesday morning assembly, attend either a formal or informal school event, and you will hear Spanish being spoken by children and adults.
Aurora students are encouraged to use Spanish as a means of communicating both inside and outside the school to create a fertile learning environment for second-language acquisition. From collaborative groupwork among students in Spanish class to partnerships with all Aurora teachers and specialists in using Spanish as a tool to learn content, Spanish is woven into the culture of learning and diversity at Aurora.
With the goal of developing conversational and literacy skills in Spanish, Alexandra Alquati, Aurora's Spanish specialist, has developed a rich and vital program based on contextual education and linked to the classroom to provide Spanish language exposure, classroom relevancy, and cultural diversity for all Aurora students. Her program brings Spanish home with a Spanish website, two weekly Parent and Families Spanish Classes and a monthly newsletter featuring vocabulary words, class activities, projects, and events in the Spanish class. This emphasis on the school-home connection fosters the sharing of language, creates a multicultural environment, and builds on conversational skills.
